In Oct 2016, Konkani catholic faith based families joined together and agreed to form an association of Konkani Catholics living in United States Of America (USA) to promote and sustain their catholic faith, Konkani language/culture and to co-ordinate and organize activities and events to unify Konkani Catholics. During the critical transition period from opening up to the first election, the assembled gathering authorized a Core Committee of seven members to continue the process and bring association to fruition.
The principal objectives of HKCA are:
- To interpret, propagate and maintain the inherent, cultural and artistic values and heritage of Konkani Catholics living in USA through various activities and programs.
- To represent the community on issues concerning ethnic, social and educational matters, to the appropriate authorities.
- To encourage and promote all types of voluntary activities, particularly the aid of organizations involved in supporting humanitarian causes.
- To provide members a platform for developing leadership, especially amongst the youth, through sports, literacy and other forms of cultural events.
- To project a common unified image and to incorporate a consistent and professional approach in the conduct of all their activities and programs including annual events, such as Easter, Monthi Fest (Nativity Feast), Thanksgiving, Christmas Social, Summer Picnic as well as any additional programs agreed and approved by the governing Core Committee.
- To promote collaboration amongst Konkani Catholic families and/or associations in USA on matters of common interest.
- To promote the Konkani language, by hosting Konkani programs and functions.
- To recognize the contributions and achievement of community member/s or group/s.
